Catching Up: Spring 2012
Oh blog, you’re still around? Ironically, the busier we are (and thus, the more blog fodder available), the less I write. Days that are so packed that once Lexi is in bed all I want to do is shut down for a few hours before much-needed sleep takes over. And Lexi is just at this age where she is changing hourly, but I can get into the nitty gritty on that this weekend, when she turns 17 months old (!).
A couple weekends ago I left town to meet up with seven other girls in Las Vegas to celebrate my future sister-in-law’s bachelorette party. Christina is crazy about Lord of the Rings, so that was the running theme throughout the weekend. This included a blow-up Frodo, LOTR Pez Dispensers, “Lord of the Wedding Rings” T-shirts and even a LOTR “ring” – a girl had to wear it if she forgot to call her booze “precious” (i.e. can I have more precious? I’m drinking a precious-Red Bull. A round of precious shots?).
The weekend was filled with lots of eating, drinking and dancing. I was definitely looking forward to a crazy Vegas weekend but after the last two years of pregnancy and mommyhood I discovered that I just couldn’t hang. I was out by 2:30am on both nights. I do have to insist that if I were at a blackjack table on Friday night instead of a club, I could have made it a couple more hours!
We arrived home on Sunday afternoon and on Tuesday we left for Orange County for three nights. Brent’s relocation package pays for us to stay down there for a “visit” so we thought we would take advantage of that, even if we aren’t quite house-hunting yet.
Even though Brent worked while we were there, Lexi and I got to meet up with him at his favorite lunch and breakfast places, and when he got home we would go out to dinner. Lexi and I spent our days visiting parks and checking out the locals malls (Irvine Spectrum had fountains that Lexi loved, almost as much as she loved the play area in the Shops at Mission Viejo). Brent and I even managed to check out a few neighborhoods to help narrow down our search. On Thursday Lexi met her “cousin” AJ (I don’t want to do the cousin-math, basically my cousin’s son) – he is so little!
We came back home on Friday, and then on Saturday we headed to the Kocsis house to celebrate the upcoming wedding with a luau for Drone and Christina. It was a super fun party, Lexi had a great time and the bride and groom went on stage to learn a few moves from the hula dancers.
Sure enough, as soon as we had some downtime this past week, Lexi came down with a cold and I caught it soon after. I’ve been trying to take it easy but for some reason toddlers don’t allow for sick days, so it’s mostly been a lot of curling up in bed and reading for the two of us until Daddy comes home and throws the Bear around for a bit. Believe it or not, we have events all weekend but hopefully I’ll find some time to update on all the fun Lexi happenings.
