Mother’s Day 2012

Posted in Family, Holidays, Lexi, Parenting by Katie on May 15, 2012

This past weekend we celebrated my second Mother’s Day!  Brent did an amazing job, taking Lexi out in the morning (picking up roses – aw) so I was able to wake up and even enjoy a cup of tea during a relaxing morning.

My mom’s birthday sometimes falls on Mother’s Day, as it did this year, so mid-morning we cleaned up and headed down to Orange County to celebrate with my mom’s side of the family.  My uncle cooked another amazing brunch and everyone hung out and enjoyed the great weather with mimosas and bloody marys.

Brent and Lexi got me some super-awesome gifts.  I finally got some real chef-style measuring cups and a beautiful apron – no more dusting myself in powdered sugar every time I try a new icing recipe!  I actually wore it while cooking meatloaf and mashed potatoes last night and felt totally legit.  Watch out, Alton Brown!

And although it just arrived yesterday (Brent and I weren’t home to sign for it on Saturday), Brent’s parents sent me two bottles of custom Katie Nash Mother’s Day Cabernet – gonna break those open tonight!

We headed home in the afternoon, and both Lexi and I settled in for our afternoon nap.  They had to wake me up around 3:30pm (I might have just slept forever) but then Brent took Lexi to the park so I got another chance to just relax and catch up on some Vampire Diaries.

Brent picked up In N Out for dinner and after Lexi fell asleep we opened a bottle of wine and watched a new Game of Thrones.  Was there anything that could have possibly been improved upon on that Sunday?  It was awesome, and I am so grateful for my little Bear, who gave me the very best, most amazing gift of mommyhood.
