A Long December…and it’s only the 2nd!

39 Weeks

First off I want to thank everyone for the kind words on our nursery project!  My #1 tip for anyone who is starting to work on a nursery is start early – it took us several months to complete but we also did everything at a really leisurely pace, sometimes waiting several weeks in between working on the room.  I think once we had the carpet done, the walls painted and the crib set up it would have been ready for an early arrival, but definitely happy that we can welcome BTG knowing that we don’t have a nursery that we still have to complete just sitting there.  Also, if you don’t count the home improvement aspects like the carpeting, the shutters and the fan, it was a pretty inexpensive makeover – we did the painting ourselves, the glider, crib and dresser were all from Babies R Us (and bought either on sale or with coupons), we bought the decals online and the bookcase, rug and pink shelves were all Target purchases.

So as you can guess, BTG is still an “inside baby” – otherwise you would not be greeted with a pic of my growing belly on this page (plus check it out – Christmas decorations are up!).  Since most first babies are late, I’m not really holding my breath that she will come before Monday, but a girl can hope.  At our doctor’s appointment yesterday there was really nothing to report, all the labor prep that my body is doing is kind of at a standstill, which doesn’t really mean anything either way – could mean labor is hours away or still weeks away.  We did have another growth ultrasound and B-Ron is now estimated to be about 7lbs 2oz – sounds big enough to me.  My doctor didn’t really say at what point they would induce, he told me that unless I was incredibly eager to make it happen soon, they would check out how things are looking in Ute next Wednesday if she isn’t here yet, and then go from there.  As much as I would like to meet baby girl asap, if she’s not ready to come out just yet then I can hold on a little longer…I guess.

Getting more settled into my role as a…trophy wife?  Stay at home [almost] mom?  Unemployed person?  If it wasn’t for being super pregnant, this would be a pretty sweet gig!  As it is, though, I get tired easily, moving around is getting more and more awkward, and I can’t bake all the awesome treats that I want because I’m so worried about gaining more weight that I can’t just run off.  Luckily some days get broken up in a good way – yesterday I was invited to a baby shower that Brent’s coworkers threw for him at a Mexican restaurant in La Canada.  I finally got to meet a lot of the people that Brent talks about from the office, and they were all incredibly sweet.  Plus they got us some great gifts, and cake!  See?

The outfit is bird themed and matches the nursery perfectly – how cute is that?  Plus Brent’s boss was able to get me a visitor’s pass to get onto the JPL campus, so I got to see Brent’s new office and he also showed me MSL – which is the new Mars rover that will be launched next year – although I am not supposed to call it a rover because the rover was the old mission…and this one is new and improved…something about it not being solar powered…Brent is going to kill me when he reads this.  Anyway, he is working on the MSL software so it was really cool to see some of what he does all week.  Of course, we couldn’t visit daddy’s work without getting a little something for B-Ron, this is one area where I would love for her to take after her father:

Future Scholorship Winner (fingers crossed)

Oh, and last but not least, Movember is finally over, and Brent didn’t waste any time shaving off the ‘stache as soon as December 1st rolled around.  Luckily I got one last picture yesterday before Brent and his facial hair parted ways.  I’m not gonna lie, I was glad to see it go.  Till next year, Movember!
